Shifting in time the

Summer flows to down tempo

Pulse and melody

Hello Friends of Flying Needle!

Happy Lesser Heat!

- fifth summer solar node -

Hope this finds you well during these interesting times!

Seasonal Musings & Reflections

It's hot, humid, and thick here in the North Carolina Piedmont. Lantana and coral honeysuckle are blooming. Cicadas and katydids are beginning to sing. While we are still accompanied by birdsong, they are not as prevalent in the heat. Wild blackberries and blueberries love this weather. See if you can enjoy some ripe ones before the birds and squirrels get them all. Hope you are finding ways to harmonize with the heat and enjoy what the season offers!

Last weekend I attended a class on the sinew channels with Eric Karchmer at my graduate alma mater – Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine. The class was awesome! Eric is a medical anthropologist, as well as a clinician. He has trained and done extensive research in China and Taiwan. His new book Prescriptions for Virtuosity: The Postcolonial Struggle of Chinese Medicine is beautifully written, fascinating and compelling.

It was my first time back to Jung Tao since I graduated in 2012. Sugar Grove, NC is as beautiful as ever. It was nourishing to return to a part of Western North Carolina where I had my first experiences learning Chinese medicine. I reconnected with friends and teachers I have not seen in 11 years, and met wonderful new colleagues. I am immensely grateful to Jen Resnick for making this weekend possible.

Mada and I are enjoyed a few deliciously unstructured Summer days earlier this week. I am heading to Boston for the weekend to celebrate the 50th birthday of a lifelong friend. A group of us who have known each other since childhood are getting together for several days of conversation, laughter, and improvisational shenanigans. While most of the crew gets together annually, this is the first time that I have been able to join in many years. Grateful to have long-lasting friendships with a group of stellar humans!

Hope everyone is finding their way into deeper resonance with the season. If you need support that I can provide, please reach out.
